Young Table Tennis Stars Impress at Crocodile Challenge Cup 2026 Finals

The Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) successfully concluded the finals of the Crocodile Challenge Cup 2026 on 31 May 2026 at Velocity@Novena Square, marking the culmination of a week-long competition featuring some of Singapore’s most promising young table tennis talents.

First established in 2011, the tournament commenced on 25 May 2026 and has grown into one of STTA’s key developmental competitions for primary school players, offering valuable competitive exposure in a structured yet supportive environment.

This year’s edition attracted 380 participants from 86 schools across Singapore, underscoring the continued strength of grassroots participation and the growing interest in the sport at the junior level.

On the competition front, it was double gold for Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School as He Qingqiu and Chloe Mao Zixuan claimed the Primary 5 and 6 Boys Singles and Girls Singles events respectively.

Both champions will receive a fully sponsored trip to represent Singapore at an upcoming World Table Tennis (WTT) Youth competition overseas, providing an important next step in their development pathway.

The finals day was graced by Guest-of-Honour Goh Han Yan, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment.

Ms Goh was first treated to both Primary 1 and 2 Boys’ and Girls’ finals before taking part in a friendly exhibition match, where she partnered the winner of the Primary 1 and 2 Boys’ event (Xie Yichen) against Mr Richard Lim, Treasurer of Crocodile Foundation Limited, and the winner of the Primary 1 and 2 Girls’ event (Iris Zhao).

She later presented medals to the winners alongside Ms Pearlyn Ng, Chairperson of Crocodile Foundation Limited and Ms Poh Li San, President of STTA and also took time to engage and interact with the young participants.

The finals attracted strong support from families, coaches, and members of the public, creating a lively and energetic atmosphere as young paddlers competed for top honours.

Ms Poh expressed appreciation to all players, coaches, officials, volunteers, and partners for their contributions to the success of the event.

“The Crocodile Challenge Cup, STTA’s marquee competition for primary school students, continues to serve as an important platform for young athletes to gain valuable competition experience and build confidence. We are heartened by the consistently strong participation year after year, which reflects the growing interest in and development of the sport at the grassroots level.

We would also like to express our appreciation to Ms Goh Han Yan for taking the time to support our young paddlers at the finals, as well as to Crocodile Foundation Limited for their continued partnership and commitment in helping us nurture the next generation of table tennis talent,” said Ms Poh.

Over the years, the Crocodile Challenge Cup has played an important role in identifying and nurturing young table tennis talent in Singapore, contributing to a strong and sustainable development pipeline. The competition provides aspiring paddlers with opportunities to progress from local success to national, regional, and international levels. Past winners include national team players Izaac Quek, Koen Pang, Ser Lin Qian, and Loy Ming Ying.
