Singapore’s Loy Ming Ying has delivered an outstanding performance at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, clinching silver in the Women’s Singles Table Tennis event.

The 16-year-old showcased her determination and composure throughout the competition, overcoming several higher-ranked opponents to secure her place in the gold-medal match.

In the semi-finals, Ming Ying produced a strong performance to defeat Hong Kong’s Su Tsz Tung 4-2 (5-11, 11-6, 11-9, 7-11, 11-8, 11-9). She then faced Chinese Taipei’s Chen Min Hsin in the final, putting up a spirited fight before going down 2-4 (11-5, 10-12, 8-11, 13-11, 7-11, 10-12) to claim the silver medal.

Ming Ying’s achievement marks Singapore’s second medal at Dakar 2026, following Ng Zhe Nin’s historic gold medal in Wushu. It is also Singapore’s second-ever Youth Olympic Games medal in table tennis, 16 years after Isabelle Li claimed silver at the inaugural Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

Ming Ying’s remarkable achievement is a testament to her hard work, resilience and fighting spirit. Her performance has given Singapore plenty to cheer about and made the nation proud.

Ming Ying will be welcomed home at Changi Airport Terminal 1 on Sunday, 8 November, following her return from Dakar. Her flight, TK22, is scheduled to arrive at 6.50am.
