
Singapore, 15 April – Team Singapore turned up the intensity on Day 2 of the SEA Youth Table Tennis Championships 2026 at the ActiveSG Pasir Ris Sports Hall, producing a string of commanding performances to send a strong contingent into the Under-19 singles Round of 32.
Singapore’s U19 Boys’ put in a commanding showing, with seven out of eight players securing their places in the knockout stage.
Nicholas Tan, the 2025 joint bronze medallist, together with Loy Xing Yao and Ellsworth Le, were in superb form, each powering to two straight 3-0 victories against regional opponents. Nicholas dispatched challengers from Indonesia and the Philippines, Ellsworth overcame Myanmar and Indonesia, while Xing Yao saw off Laos and Thailand, as the trio asserted their dominance on home soil.
SEA Youth debutant Jaryl Wong continued his impressive introduction to the regional stage, securing confident wins over Myanmar (3-0) and Vietnam (3-1). Jayden Tan delivered one of the grittiest performances of the day, edging a thrilling 3-2 battle against Malaysia before regrouping to dispatch Indonesia 3-0.
However, it was Benaiah Seah who stole the spotlight with his fighting spirit—digging deep to survive two nail-biting 3-2 encounters against Vietnam and Laos, before sealing his place in the next round with a composed 3-1 win over Myanmar.
Yang Ze Yi only had to win his match against Malaysia to make the next round after being awarded a walkover victory over the Philippines, and he duly did so as he beat his Causeway rival, 3-1.
Aron Ng was the odd one out as he failed to make the cut, after losing both his matches to Malaysia (0-3) and Philippines (1-3).
The U19 Girls’ mirrored the boys’ success with a series of dominant and hard-fought victories, as five made it through to the knockout stages.
National players Loy Ming Ying, Chloe Lai alongside Chong Zi Sian were particularly impressive, each registering two convincing 3-0 victories against opponents from Myanmar, Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines respectively.
Sweden-based Eudora Lee also maintained a flawless record with 3-0 wins over opponents from Malaysia and Myanmar.
Also joining the quartet in the knockout stage was Janelle Chiang, after she secured back-to-back 3-1 victories over opponents from Indonesia and the Philippines.
Rhiannon Tey, Gisele Peh and Sie Lay Yin did not make it through.
Day 3 of the championships will see the semifinals and finals of the U15 and U19 team events, alongside the U15 Singles events and U19 Mixed Doubles.
