Singapore’s young paddlers delivered a commendable performance at the WTT Youth Contender Vientiane 2025, with Bu Kee Ren securing a silver medal and Gu Junchen earning a joint bronze in the U11 Boys’ Singles category.

This was both Bu and Gu’s first WTT Youth series podium finish.

Bu’s road to the final saw him defeat both his Singaporean teammates in hard fought matches in the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively.

He beat Dong Yifan 3-2 (11-5, 9-11, 11-9, 8-11, 12-10) in the quarterfinal, before also prevailing over Gu in a comeback 3-2 victory. (9-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-8).

In an all Southeast Asian final, it was the Thame Ratanawachirin of Thailand that took home the championship, defeating Bu 3-1 (11-1, 9-11, 11-5, 11-8).

Singapore’s double podium in the U11 Boys’ Singles underlines the strength of its youth development programme and the depth of talent in the next generation of players.
