Singapore’s junior paddlers clinched two silvers in the Boys’ and Girls’ U13 Singles events at the WTT Youth Contender San Francisco III, courtesy of Zane Ong and Chevelle See.
Both fell to 3-2 defeats in their respective finals – Ong losing to Wu Yuan Kai of Chinese Taipei, 11-8, 6-11, 11-8, 4-11, 9-11 and See being defeated by home favourite Anya Shanbhag, 5-11, 11-8, 12-10, 8-11, 9-11.
Despite the defeat, Ong will be pleased to have clinched his first runner up medal in the U13 Boys Singles event, following three straight 3rd place finishes at Wladyslowowo, Berlin and Havirov earlier this year.
Teammate Isaiah Loh shared the bronze, after he lost 3-1 to Wu in the semifinals, 10-12, 12-10, 8-11, 6-11.
For See, it was her fourth podium finish of the year in the U13 Girls’ Singles, having clinched her maiden U13 title in Wladyslowowo and joint-3rd placing in Havirov early this year in March, and most recently, clinching a joint-3rd place finish in Vientiane in August.
