
Singapore’s Izaac Quek and Koen Pang, ranked 8th in the world , stepped up once again on the international stage as they clinched their first ever WTT Star Contender podium finish in Oman.
Using this competition as a warm up for the upcoming SEA Games in Thailand, the defending SEA Games gold-medallists had to settle for 2nd in the Men’s Doubles at the WTT Star Contender Muscat 2025 after they lost to South Korea’s Lim Jonghoon and Oh Junsong 3-0 in the final.
Things might have been different had the Singaporean duo capitalised on their 9-6 lead in the first set, but they allowed to the Koreans to come back to win the set 12-10.
The second set saw the Koreans race into a 4-0 lead, and despite the Singaporeans tying the set at 7-7, Lim and Oh held on to win the set 11-8.
It was the Quek and Pang’s turn to race into an early lead in the third set, as they led 3-0, before the Koreans scored four unanswered points to lead 4-3. From then on, the set swung back and forth and went into deuce at 10-10. Unfortunately for the Singapore pair, they could not find the killer instinct as the Koreans clinched the victory 12-10.
In the semi finals, they managed to prevail 3-0 over the higher ranked Indian pair of Manush Shah and Manav Thakkar, winning in straight sets 11-7, 11-5, 11-6.
Nevertheless, the Singapore pair continue to make waves on the international stage and showcasing why they deserve to be among the Top 10 Men’s Doubles pairs in the world.
