Singapore’s next generation of table tennis talent made their mark in Slovenia at the WTT Youth Contender Otocec 2025, with Luke Wang clinching the U11 Boys’ Singles gold medal, after defeating his Australian opponent, Samuel Win, 3-1 (13-11, 11-9, 4-11, 13-11) in a hard fought final.
Luke received a bye in the quarterfinals, before defeating Maksim Peto of Serbia in the semifinal, also by a score of 3-1 (11-4, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8).
Team mate He Qingqiu secured a joint bronze after battling his way into the semifinals, where he was beaten by Win, 6-11, 11-6, 7-11, 7-11. He had earlier beaten teammate Jayden Lin 3-1 in the quarterfinal, winning 11-8, 12-14, 11-5, 11-9.

Singapore’s other quarterfinalist, Zhang Boyang, lost to Peto by a score of 3-1 (10-12, 13-11, 8-11, 9-11).
The double medal and having four players reach the quarterfinals underscores the effectiveness of Singapore’s youth development pathway, which continues to produce results on the international stage.

Kudos also to the players and coaches for the hard work put in.
